Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and
Special Education |
Classroom teachers are the key to
American education and are consequently
integral to the future of the country
and the world. For this awesome
responsibility they must be prepared to
discern wisely, to think creatively, to
teach effectively, and to demonstrate
the qualities of integrity and love.
The primary goal of the Department of
Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special
Education is to prepare competent and
caring professional educators. Many
students in the department desire to
become teachers; others wish to prepare
for working with children in such areas
as preschools and support service areas.
The Department of Early Childhood,
Elementary and Special Education
provides training for those students
wishing to obtain teacher licensure in
early childhood education (PreK-3),
elementary education (K-6) and special
education (K-12). The department also
provides the professional education
courses for post-baccalaureate students
seeking licensure on the undergraduate
level. Students wishing to work with
children in institutions and agencies
other than public schools may choose
majors that do not lead to teacher
licensure.
